i visited the lp today and i put a P. regalis up, so i could ask you lot what i should do obvisouly i know i shouldnt handle it would of course be a display

Well, they're arboreal for one. So give it a tallish tank with some vertical hides to build a web in.

Some will burrow though, just to prove us wrong.

it comes with the tank and everything for 40 pounds is tht good, im not a t person so im just doing me research now

any one been bitten by one?

£40 including tank isnt a bad deal depending on the kind of tank really. Pokies are really easy to look after aslong as you treat them with the respect they deserve, I have a female that takes food off the forceps lol
I have also been bitten twice once was a dry bite more of a scratch than anything.
And managed to get bitten by my big female about 2 months ago, it hurt for 2 days then ached for a few days after that, its not a very pleasant experience I suggest you avoid being bitten.

In general though they prefer to leg it, what I tend to do before opening the tub up fully is open a lil flap thats in the lid and gently prod there abdomen they usually leg it to the bottom of the enclosure to hide, making it pretty safe to mess about spot cleaning ect

No.

Definitely not.

In fact, the only Ts I'd suggest handling would be a few members of a handful of genera -- and then, only for demos (outreaches, etc. to show that they're not as scary as they sound) or tank transfers. Pretty much the same thing as with scorpions.

(If you're wondering, the genera that come to mind are Grammastola, Brachypelma, Aphonopelma, and Avicularia. The first three are usually big lazy Ts that don't do much, and the last are so reluctant to bite (in my experience) that even when they're being skittish they're nothing to worry about.)

I would not recommend handling of this species as an amature because it can and will hospitalize you for pain and uncontrollable spasms - pokies can pack a punch. They won't kill you or anything like that (unless you're allergic) but they'll make you pray for death for a day or so. There is a bite report on RobC's youtube as well as many "how to" vids that will prove helpful to you. This is an amazing species and at 40 pound, with a tank, it's an amazing deal. I can't say I would use half of Rob's "how to's" but I've been doing this for long enough that I don't need a "how to" on turning a tank on end.

If it is anything like the 1.25 version, it will be half way across the country before you figure out where it is. Very cool and thanks for showing me what I have to look forward to. Good luck with this gem and keep us aware of the progress.
