Baaaaaaad molt...

I just got home from a week long vacation driving from Texas to Rhode Island and back. Ehen I got home, I discovered that the cord to the heat tape on my Emp enclosure had gotten unplugged accidentally, either by me before I left or by the girl we left in charge of watching everything while we were gone. Inside the enclosure, I discovered an enclosure in the low 70's, a lot less moisture than normal and most of my plant dead. I also discovered the worst molting deformity I have ever really seen. Not sure if it was the cold environment that did it, but it was bad. Poor girl almost looks more like a weird elephant than a scorpion.

And looks like I've got an enclosure that needs a huge substrate change now. Lots of gnats in there now. *sigh* I got a fun day ahead of me.

Sucks man, is it alive? It might pull throught despite the deformity.

He lived for a little bit. I separated him from the others when I discovered him, but he was dead when I checked a few hours later. Had he lived, though, I don't think he would have lived much longer. He wouldn't have been able to catch anything with those chelae like that. And his legs were funky, too. I don't think he would have been able to move much either.

if it did mange it out. I would feel bad for it living because it would probably starve, dehydrate, get constipated, and not be able to move.

I was thinking the same thing. I probably would have put him in the freezer and let him die peacefully instead of living that kind of life. He didn't give me that option, though. He died very shortly after I discovered him. I may put him in alcohol or formaldehyde, though. His deformities are a spectacle for sure.

It's going to be hard to preseve due to not having hardened.

Yeah. I was thinking formaldehyde, if I can find it, since it's good for preserving soft tissue.
