Stressful Night Empty
PostSubject: Stressful Night   Stressful Night Empty4/23/2013, 12:14 pm

So lastnight I was our running errands so I got home much later than usual. I check up on all my scorpions and had picked up some crickets for some picky eaters that won’t eat roaches (1. T.stigmurs, all three of my C. margaritatus, and 2 of my R. junceus) as I was feeding my scorps I noticed that the smaller H.judaicus was molting. This caught me off guard as I assumed it was an adult only slightly smaller that the other one. And because the other one became cannabilistic I had separated them. I didn’t have an extra enclosure so for the past 2 weeks I’ve been alternating them giving them each some stretching room one in the enclosure and one in a large deli cup. The one in the delicup was the one molting and it was too close to edge of the cup to pull out from its exo properly. I had no idea how long it was in midmolt so I gently nudged it and no motion what so ever. I exchanged the scorpions to give it room to molt but I already feared the worst. I misted a corner of the enclosure and turned up the heat. It took an hour but the little guy molted just fine. (I’ll post some pictures up soon). After that whole ordeal I was ready to go bed but my G.ankarana caught my eye with some erratic motions. I noticed that it had caught itself in some gorilla tape! I was using the tape to close the small entrance to the skull I keep in the enclosure; I guess she pulled it off. It had the three front legs stuck I used a blacklight to id the scorp from the tape and the first thing I did is cover it in sand and dirt to prevent any more legs from getting stuck. I started to panic because those legs were stuck on good. I even considered amputating otherwise the scorp would just pull its own legs out. My wife took over and using some water on the legs she managed to pull one of three out. The other two seemed to be impossible to pull out without harming her so I dropped some olive oil and with just a little force my wife managed to pull both legs out. I’m glad to say my G.ankarana is fine and has sustained zero damage just a very stressful night for all of us. So now how do I repay Mrs. Abyss for saving my favorite (and only FEMALE) from doom.

I know I literally would have cried if I had to amputate. But this was my fault so I learned from my mistake and learned how to handle this situation.

So glad that all worked out...stressful sounding indeed! Serious props to Mrs. Abyss! Very nice save with the olive oil. I only knew that lighter fluid dissolves adhesives, but that would not be good at all.

Now for reward ideas...let's see...she saves your most prized scorpion, takes killer photos, unpacks a box full of roaches, let's you spend countless hours playing with us daily...you're in deep bro! Flowers and a foot rub might not completely cover it. This might require painting toenails and a couple of dinners! Whatever you decide, tell her we appreciate her contributions to the hobby!

Yup she's something alright, lol I think more than anything she just wants a break from being a mother. I'll let her have a night out and take care of our little brat.

You are a lot calmer than me, I would have started panicking and wouldn't have stayed calm. Glad everything worked out!

Man, wish my wife would something like that.. I had three T. Stigmaurus get stuck on the sticky side of a hygrometer guage. It fell off the glass and my three T. Stigmaurus got into the glue part. Had to gently pull them off by seperating them away from the glue carefully. Was very tedious and they were third instars. Never will I use another Tue of hygrometer like that again.
