Hadrurus excavation Empty
PostSubject: Hadrurus excavation   Hadrurus excavation Empty4/18/2013, 4:35 am

Yesterday I moved my adult male Hadrurus arizonensis to its new enclosure

It started digging straight away in a hide a slightly pre-dug. What I realised is that I may have made the substrate out of red clay, too hard and it is having trouble making progress.

Only managed a few cm's over the course of the night. This morning it was still working away

Should I let him continue or could it damage its extremities in the process!

He seems to be quite focussed on the job and at least he is occupied!

Any comments or thoughts welcome

they're quite efficient at digging. But it might be to hard for him to succesfully dig through. I dont think he'll damage himself but you might want to switch to him to an enclosure with less clay.

They can get through, mine got through hardened sand with a clay additive and managed to build a tunnel.

They are built for that:)

Take care,

Joey

Thanks. He seems to have stopped now and is having a rest. Lets see tomorrow what happens.

I put the juvenile female in the tank beside with same substrate and she dug right in.

I think my male is a wimp!
