Can you get a better pic and a locality? I'm leaning towards Androctonus spp.

the 4th and 5th metasomal segments look to be off of an Androctonus sp. The terminal spines are what lead me to believe that it could be A. sp. The prosoma on the other hand looks very Parabuthus to me. A. mauretanicus is not glossy like that, unless it is a type of locality morph?

I do not think it is an A. crassicauda. That species is usually reddish in color. I'm trying to figure out that prosoma. Those median eyes are pretty far back as apposed to a typical Andro.

Unless it's a young Androctonus to me it looks like Parabuthus but the angle of the picture can be misleading.

Good observation, I never even considered age to be a factor. I agree the angle is misleading.

Well.... crap. This is a hard one.

lol

I have mailed the advertiser. Most people guess A. bicolor and A. Crassicauda.

Eddy... look at those final caudal segments, very bulky on the side and the pronounced granulation .... I def think Andro here but then again, I am still learning the buthid way;)

Im with keith on that one I'm gonna say not A.bicolor. I'm willing to suggest that it might be Androctonus the tail sure looks like it but chela look to thick. BUt because of the angle the tail can look bigger than it is and the chela might lookg bigger too. So i can be totally wrong and I'm no expert on ID'ing species anyways. But I sure to love to try

Well the scorpion in question is from Jordan http://www.wauwel.nl/wordpress/archives/1911. I did a search using the link on google images.

The two black Androctonus spp. found in Jordan are A. bicolor and A. crassicauda. As already mentioned the chelae look too bulky to be A. bicolor. So, providing that the picture was taken by the guys who wrote the blog, it's an Androctonus crassicauda. It certainly looks like one to me.

Thanks everybody for their contribution.
I just woke up so checking this early.

Thank you Callum, for that search I didn't think of it myself.
I can tell you now the scorpion is from some guy who has an ad on a site for WTB/FS.

He says the scorp is a few months old.
I did a search on the weblog and the article was written in 2010;) by someone who visited Jordan and found this near his personal belongings. The language is Dutch, my native language;)
So that picture is not of the scsorpion the guy from the ad is selling.

I have emailed the guy in question and am waiting for a response.

I will keep you guys updated.

Thanks again everybody!!
