New Haddy! Empty
PostSubject: New Haddy!   New Haddy! Empty4/2/2013, 11:36 pm

So after spending a month making a haddy tank in November, then having all of my retailers dry up on them during the winter, I finally found a candidate for my adventures.

I have no idea what I'm going to call her, but here's the few pics I've managed to take of her.

Curse me for not taking the camera out BEFORE putting her into the tank.

Be warned, these pictures are huge. I have no idea how my phone took them. O.o

Spoiler:
Spoiler:

Major questions I have involve the possibility of her being Gravid. If I get little slings, what do I do with them? I keep hearing that Haddy's are IMPOSSIBLE to Captive breed.

This is a decent picture of her, but the lighting is terrible.

Spoiler:

Concerns - she hasn't been very active. She's eaten a bunch, but I haven't seen her out, nor have I seen the telltale signs of excavation. My digital thermometer shows 80 F on the surface sand. Dunno if I should try to bump up the temp some.

More Pictues!

Thanks for the help!

Not sure if I can help you, unfortunately. But what I would do is keep the temperature about the same, and leave it for a week. Make a personal note on it's behavior, then check again later in the week.

They can take awhile to get settled in. The human downside when you make such a great enclosure is that the scorpion can do what it naturally does...make a burrow and stay in it. I've had my new Haddy almost a month and it spends the day and much of the night in it's burrow. My temps are about the same...80 during the day and 75 at night. I'll slowly get it up to 90 during the day and 80 at night. My past experience with these scorpions has been that as they get more comfortable, they will come out more at night. Your enclosure is great. She will be more adventurous in time. She's hiding and eating...it's all good.

I agree with Bayss here, all the behavior you mentioned is natural.
I don't see my Haddy at all. Mostly because they burrow heavily and like it down there.

Also great looking enclosure and congrats with your new nice looking Haddy:)

Neat Scorp! This species does make its self at home pretty fast, or mine did.
