Vaejovis help needed

Hi there, I have two female Vaejovis carolinaensis (think I spelled that wrong), that live in a 24" x 12" inch all glass tank. I used a substrate of 2parts sand to 1 part ground up coir, which seemed fine by the standards of the little bit of info I could find at the time. having read the caresheet on this site I see my substrate is not really advised, so I was wondering about a change. The problem is both females are pregnant, and I worry that messing around with a new enclosure will be bad news for the babies (eaten by mother, etc). Should I leave things be or should I change things around before the babies arrive?

If you could post a picture of the enclosure that would be helpful. You could add some additional coir to one end of the enclosure to increase the humidity. I like to have one side slightly damp (not soaking wet) and the other end dry to create a choice in humidity. This does require good air flow...like a screen top. Have multiple pieces of cork bark/wood and some stones for them. The substrate you have doesn't sound like a risk really. If you just want a change then I would say it's fine to move the gravid females for a quick change...assuming they don't currently have babies on their back and you don't expect them to pop within a few days. Obviously, any stress should be minimized if they are ready to have the brood soon. Adding more coir to one end, on top of the current substrate, would probably be the easiest route. Good luck with those future babies.

If it's not a risk then I will leave things as they are. There are plenty of rocks and cork bark flats in there. It's a good thought about the humidity gradient, and the set up has a well ventilated mesh and glass top, so I'll consider my options. Many thanks for the help.

i've dealt with disturbing gravid females before and if the need arises to do so, do it now than when the babies arrive. just my opinion though, all is still entirely up to your good judgment.
