Androctnus australis or amoreuxi? Empty
PostSubject: Androctnus australis or amoreuxi?   Androctnus australis or amoreuxi? Empty11/29/2012, 7:41 pm

I picked up two little scorps recently and I thought they were Androctonus australis but now I'm wondering if they are A. amoreuxi. Maybe their tails are a bit too thin to be amoreuxi??? I have a very large A. australis to compare with but the size difference may be throwing me off. The following are pics of the two scorps. I'm pretty sure they are both the same species. Thanks!

The specimen above is Androctonus australis.

The following are some sample pics of an A.amourexi,

Thanks, I can see in your pics the color of the main body is a bit darker in the amoreuxi. I think the amoreuxi's tail is not as fat as the australis' also??

That's right, A.australis has a much impressive tail as compared to A.amoreuxi.

Plus, that darken tip at the end of your A.australis' metasoma is a good indicator to ID it from the two as well.

A random shot on A.australis metasoma's segment:

Oh yes, an obvious difference. I think a lot of pics on the internet mix these guys up. Thanks again.
