I have a 40 gl tank. Everything looks fine but I need to know what should be the temperature inside the tank I use a ceramic heat emitter 150 watts is that too high or should I leave it?

What you need to do is determine how much heat is getting to ground level where your scorpion lives. So if you have any kind of small thermometer can you put it in the tank and leave it there for a few hours on the hot side. If it reads in the 80-85 range you have it just right. If it's much hotter move your lamp farther away or dimmer it down to lower heat output. If it's much colder bring it closer.

Then all you have to do is think about keeping the humidity up in the %80 despite adding all that drying heat.

+1.

150 watts is almost certainly overkill for a tank that size, however, as Yames said, you could move the lamp farther away or use a dimmer.

Personally, I'd get one around 75 watts.

It's on the high side, but not too critical as long as it doesn't go higher. 86F is considered the ideal temp for emps and 88F the high end. As long as there is a cooler part in your enclosure, 90F should still be fine.

You could probably get a dimmer/rheostat if you wish to drop the temps a bit.

That is perfect. Now just make sure you keep the humidity at near %80 ish and you will have one happy little scorpion. If you don't have a way of monitoring the humidity the rule of moist but not wet on the substrate is good. Also a bit of condensation on the inside of the cool side usually shows the right amount of moisture in the air.

I took care of that too Wink the humidity is reasonable good the lowest I've seen it go down is 70%
But the substrate is sort of damp though
Would that be bothersome to my emp?

That's ideal then. Hygrometers are unreliable, as long as the substrate is damp, your emp will be fine.

4 months puts them at 3rd or possibly 4th instar with 3 or 4 more to go. I think you should keep them separate when they are getting ready to molt. As the other ones may cannibalize a freshly molted tank mate. But you can set up a small secondary keeper for ones as they get close to molt it just means you have to watch them. How many others do you have?

Sorry to ask but how do you go by instar I don't really know it all.
I'm raising four little scorplings and one mature emperor.
But the thing is that when could I be able to put them all together in commune.

When a scorpion is born it is 1st instar. Then every molt after that advances it an instar. It's like a grade in school but the only way to advance is to shed your old exoskeleton. So with emps a white telson shows 2-4th instar a yellowish light brownish telson shows 5-6th instar and full grow 7th instar will have a red or dark brown telson.

You can out them all together right now. However there is a chance that as when one of the 4 sub adults molts it could be eaten by the other members. Possibly the adult one as well. If they are kept well fed with multiple hides and places to go the chances of that is greatly reduced. It's up to you.
