| So I've been a tad bored today and decided to try my best at sexing my 2nd instar Lq's. The verdict is in and it appears that of the only 1 is male. And he's the one with the messed up leg. Without further ado I give you GS the man of the house. #1 GS, I keep coming up with 31 which makes him a him. But the picture is kinda small. All the other ones stop in the high 20's 26-29 specifically which makes it easy to say female. Maybe I need to take a bunch more pics of him to try to get a clear one. I just noticed that when it resizes the image it makes it so that you guys can't zoom in at all. So my picture can't be double checked. I guess I'll have to go with my hunch and wait till 3rd instar. Anyone have a rough guess how many days after 2nd instar that will come? | |

| Very close replica indeed, i'm quite messed up in real-life and surrounded by countless babes How fast do they go from two to three instar partly depends on how intense is your feeding schedule. Estimated, between three to seven weeks. | |

| Please forgive me if this question has been asked before but I can't find the information I'm looking for on the web. Do Lq's double clutch? Is that something I need to watch out for? | |

| I don't know the answer to your question but this is a really informative thread! I love the little guys' black tipped tails!
When my C. vit had babies I had no idea she was gravid. She was small and slim. | |

| The Race to 3i was won by #6 Hauser. It only took 49 days. I guess the rest will molt soon too. Expect more pics to follow. | |

| Now 8 hours later #1 GS has molted too. It's funny how the ones that look the fattest aren't the first to molt. | |

| That is interesting. Can you notice anything about the early molters that is different than the late molters? Cool Thread! | |

| To be honest Robert. No. I have been trying to keep track of who ate and what day and how much but my heavy eaters sure aren't the first to 3rd i. Even my fattest aren't. the first to go was a female housed in the center of my tackle box so she may have the most consistent heat. But then then the second one to molt was #1 on the outside corner of the box and a male. The only male in my group of 7 so I can't draw any conclusions from any of this. But I tell you what it's sure fun to raise little tiny slings. | |

| Thanks Yames. I have a bunch of baby C. vits but I'm raising them the lazy man's way. I have them together in a large Critter Keeper with plenty of stacked cork bark. I think they are probably mostly 3rd instar. I really don't even know how many I have. They hide in the cracks in the bark so I'll only get a count when they get too big to fit in the cracks LOL! | |

| #3 Shadowfoot is actually the next to molt by her size and appearance. She and #2 molted into 4th i on the same day so she has been keeping a good pace. You make me proud! | |

| LOL Michael is someone I look up to for scorpion info. He doesn’t frequent the forum but check the article section about newly discovered scorpion he found. He’s my middle eastern authority on scorpions. Lq’s come in all different shades of coloration but there are two sub species. L. quinquestriatus quinquestriatus and L. quinquestriatus hebreus. The main way to know if you have a true lqq is the 5th black segment. LQQ has a solid black segment and LQH has a greyish gradient segment. If you take a look at my freshly molted LQ picture and compare it you’ll see the difference.

| I wonder if any of it has to do with flash and camera? Not that I doubt him or you I would just guess that flash intensity can change how anything looks. It would be cool to take pics with the same camera and lighting to show off the differences. | |

| Its not the flash, it's easier to tell on a fresh molt, you can see that yours have that gradient betwenn the telson and the 5th metasoma segment while mine is just one solid black. Similar to H.arizonensis and H.spadix where the black goes up to the eyes ont the spadix and not on the arizonensis. But I don't see this being a problem I used to breed H.arizonensis and H.arizonensis pallidus. Since these are closer together in the gene pool you should have no problem breedin with L.q.q's. I just thought you'd like to know the subspecies you have | |
