Regular coco fiber is best, as it's easier to burrow in.

Don't use any softwood products such as fir -- it's bad for bugs.

Possibly both. Some people have success with keeping a few bugs on pine-related substrate (when they're found on it in nature), but generally the resins are harmful to invertebrates. I'd get some regular coco as soon as you can.

Pandinus Imperator normally likes to dig and make burrows. He/she wont be able to do that on wood chips or whatever you have your little one on.
Get some "plantation" soil (coco fibre) and your little one will be fine and dandy.

Now for your chilean rose....I have no idea why its freaking out..maybe it found the substrate too wet? They generally like it "Quite" dry so it hanging out on the top might have only been a hint that maybe what you had before was too wet?

If a burrowing species such as a rosehair was hanging from the lid, it definitely didn't like something. Was that with the pine-related substrate?

The thick cut should be ok, but regular cocofiber will make burrowing easier.

Good luck. Smile
