Hi all I was just a bit curious on what an instar is? Also how would I be able to tell what instar my scorpion is? I have a Hardrurus arizonensis and a Vaejovis spinigerus. Thank you.

Instar - the time between molts.
Newborn scorpions are 1st instars, after their first molt but before their second they are 2nd instars.

Ya I was kind of thinking that myself. Can you tell by the stance or what? Color?

The way its holding its legs kinda tucked in over its body shows that its probably not in good health.

I see well when I first got him he was like that but he has been eating and active at night so I'm not sure I am going to wait and see but I am thinking the same thing.

Does his enclosure have a small water dish? Also a hide so he can be out of the stressful light?

The concerns raised are valid.

Also, for your earlier question, they seemed 6/7.instar.
To increase accuracy in estimating instar, it'll be good for the picture to have an item (e.g. Ruler, quarter, lighter) beside the scorpion for comparative purpose.

That's odd because all of my c. vittatus go into that stance when resting on the undersides of their bark. Even the single 2i that survived a gluttonous mommy, will sit that way...

+1.

@ CactusHugger--- Have you noticed it becoming lethargic or dragging it's metasoma on the substrate?
