PostSubject: Importing Scorpions   8/27/2012, 9:35 am

I remember a few year ago that a friend was telling me that a "friend of a friend" was importing scorpions, tarantulas and beetles etc. from abroad.

I was considering doing this myself as I have a lot of interest in procuring some for myself, as there are a lot of good reptile / exotic shops near me, but few who have much variety in scorpions.

I'm finding in hard to find anyone who exports scorpions, to start negotiations can anyone recommend anyone?

For starters, it would be good if you would state your location..

What scorpions do you have now?

Actually, there's quite a few local scorpions in UK that are just so tempting for anyone to get their hands on.

We have quite a group of friendly UK peeps here.

I'm sure they'll drop by to give some recommendation when they have noticed your thread here Smile

The plus side is that you're in the EU so you can get scorpions from Germany for example, without big hassle. The problem is, that breeders in western europe mostly breed buthids which you can't keep due to the DWA act in UK.

I'm sure Jay or Callum will pop in discussion to give you some advice from who to get more interesting scorpions.

As Dolby said, there's plenty of EU breeders/sellers that have interesting stuff for sale.

Have a look at these sites.

http://www.terraristik.com/tb/list_classifieds.php Lots of private sellers here.

http://www.skorpione.de/forum/viewforum.php?f=8 More private sellers.

http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/forums/spiders-inverts/402505-list-european-invert-sellers.html Lots of EU invert sellers sites. Not all do scorpions.

There's quite a lot more if you have a search about.

Don't worry to much about the language barrier, google translate sorts that and if you come to emailing any people, the European education system is so much better than ours when it comes to languages, so everyone speaks English lol.....

Posting costs are generally around 7 to 10 euros (or free if you spend a lot), and parcels normally take 3 to 5 days to arrive. Always make sure the seller posts on a Monday so that there's less chance of the parcel getting stuck at the sorting office over a weekend. Most sellers won't post livestock after October/November, when it starts to freeze.

I'm not sure if you mean actually importing stuff at trade prices and/or direct from countries where scorpions are actually collected though? I've bought from a Polish guy who has an extensive list of scorpions, that if purchased in bulk work out extremely cheap, 1/3 to 1/2 the price you would normally pay, even from private sellers. His email is exoticanimals_pl@wp.pl , and ask for a current stock list.

If it's direct imports from collectors I haven't a clue where you would start. I've heard of some invert keepers talk of doing this over on RFUK, so you could have a search around there. I do know that this is far more risky, and will require you to buy animals in very large numbers. Drumming up some interest and getting a number of people together to put up money would probably be the way to go with this.
