Hottentotta jalalabadensis from Eastern Afghanistan popped a week ago. The nymphes molted yesterday, after 5 days. Some left their mother and were picked up by another gravid female, carrying them the second day on her back. The group in the tank consists of 1 male and 3 gravid females. So far the group is kept nearly 1 year in harmony together, without having observed any stress or disharmony. All 3 females have been mated by the single male

Miska, how do you get hold of such rare species from a country that is pretty much off limits to Westerners, bar the military?

I am working as security advisor for development programme in Afghanistan for 6 years now and can use the opportunity to collect and study rare specimen. I was able even to breed some and preserve them for the hobby. There is another scorpion named after me meanwhile. The Euscorpiops thaomischi from Vietnam, first discovered scorpion species in North Viet Nam

It took me some years and many afforts, because this area is controlled by the Taliban. Nevertheless, I have some spare I can trade or sell.
