This is my new rose hair tarantula! I am new to tarantulas so any advice on this particular species is welcomed

I see this guide mentions that a large amount of humidity is not required but yet my pet store guide states that there humidity should be 50 to 90% am i looking at the wrong tarantula? I have the rose hair tarantula haha i am so confused.

Pet stores always have their information wrong.

You have a G. rosea.

Here's a little info on their natural habitat :
G. rosea come from the margins and less severe areas of the Atacama desert. This is arguably one harshest places on the planet. Some spots have not had rain in recorded history. The temperatures there may reach 135°F (57°C) or higher in the Chilean summer and they may experience light frosts in winter. Although it's thought that the areas where G. rosea are prominent are not so severe. They've been reported from desert and semi-desert to scrub forests. In nature, they get most of their water from their prey and from fog that drifts inland from the Pacific ocean.


So basically, keep them on bone dry substrate with a small, shallow water dish.


And as with scorps, don't worry about it not eating. There are accounts of them fasting for 2 years.

Wow thanks the pet store told me to keep the substrate moist and the humidity at 70% i really hope i didnt harm him in those 2 days he had those conditions but i heard they are hardy. Definitely glad to have my facts straight! Thanks again I appreciate it

Nah, those conditions didn't harm her.

However, she was probably a very pissy spider in those conditions.

Haha ya she was clinging to the glass and stuff so i kind of felt somethin was wrong. Well good glad we got that dilemma solved!

Hey one more question! If you could haha my tarantula has been in the same spot for about 2 days now is this normal behavior sometimes? He isnt dead but just hasnt changed spots for a while. Thanks!

Yes, perfectly normal behavior for your T.

Similar to how emps are often called "pet hole", G. rosea are often called "pet rocks."

I've found that scorpions, in general, are slightly more active than tarantulas.

I have one more question say a tarantula went 3 or 4 days without a water dish haha I forgot to put it in before I left on a little mini trip while I was rushing around. Im thinking its fine I worry too much I guess?

Not a problem at all. I always fill the water cups of mine when feeding (this happens each 10-15 days) and have not had problems even when molting.
