Will bright ceiling lights in my room bother my Emperor? Empty
PostSubject: Will bright ceiling lights in my room bother my Emperor?   Will bright ceiling lights in my room bother my Emperor? Empty8/17/2012, 12:55 am

Hello, Im really kind of a n00b at this. Ive been doing alot of research on Emperor scorpions, and I think Im just about ready. I have the tank and the parts that I need (side heat pad, thermometer, etc.) But the lighting is whats throwing me off. My room is really bright when the lights are on, which isnt very often. But knowing that scorpions are nocturnal, will they bug my Emperor? I have a pic of my room and the tank (not set up yet) to give you an idea.

Any tips for a newbie like me will be much appreciated!

(Also, just incase your wondering I dont have my scorps yet, Im just setting up and trying to make sure I know enough before I get one, since Im trying to be a responsible owner.)

As long as you provide adequate substrate for burrowing and perhaps something for it to hide under (e.g. a piece of cork bark, half log, flat rock, etc.) it will be fine.

You can also apply a background to the back and ends of your enclosure to block some of the ambient light. Most petstores sell tropical mylar backgrounds for glass aquariums, although they're a bit pricy unless you find them on sale. For my desert enclosures, I use vinyl floor tiles attached with masking tape for easy removal to view burrows along the glass. The tiles come in a variety of rock patterns and shades to imitate slate and only cost about $1. They are a bit hard to cut however. Cardboard or construction paper works as well, although it may not be as esthetically pleasing.
