It's possible but tedious
It's the adult males which makes the chirping sound with their back wings. Ripped it off and they will be silent.

It's enough to cut of the tips of their wings..but as GS said, it's tedious (although I know of people who do make it )

I personally buy the crickets in large size instead of extra large/adult size so I tend to use them up before they get to the adult chirping stage with the wings. Although I do get through a serious amount of crix.

Cut off wings? Or bite the bullet and get roaches. You'll be happy you did. Discountdubias.com has them super cheap

Use the males first! Easily sexed,not so easily caught! To sex - looking at the rear of the crickets you'll see some have three 'spines' projecting.some two. Males lack the third 'spine' projecting from the centre,this is the ovipositor (breeding tube) used by females to deposit their eggs in the substrate.
