Possible crisis? Empty
PostSubject: Possible crisis?   Possible crisis? Empty2/27/2012, 1:21 pm

On thursday I recieved a black emperor, no idea how old it is but its 5cm long and the stinger bit was still white. I released her into her tank, after an hour or so she moved under some cork bark, a few hours later she was still under there but in a different place, and in the morning she was just gone. I can't find her anywhere on the surface but I can't find a burrow entrance, though she is quite small so I'm not sure how noticeable it would be? I've checked every night since then but haven't seen her at all. She was mailed so I imagine she was very stressed, also possible she's going to molt or something, how long can I expect not to see her for though?

I saw somewhere someone said their scorpion didn't eat for 5 months, so should I just leave it and if I haven't seen her in 6 months have a dig around?

If the stinger is white, then its juvenile. So on a guess im going to say, 3i...? If shes under ground, shes happy. I only see mine when they want food or extra heat from the lamp. Scorpions are experts at hiding from you. As for the time she will stay hidden, I can honestly say, she will stay hidden until she wants to come out. Theres nothing wrong when they dont eat for long periods of time. Who knows how long you have to wait before something comes up to you to be eaten. Got any pics of the setup? Like substrate and everything?

It's just she's small and I have no idea where her burrow is, obviously they can go for a while without food but would she come to the surface if she was starving? Or would she just starve to death without me knowing?

Got no pictures but the tank is square, a heat mat under one quarter of it, piece of cork bark in the middle and a cavey thing in the corner opposite the heat mat, sphagnum moss in in two other corners. About 5" substrate with a mixture of peaty-earth and small pieces of bark, I bought them off the internet so they should be safe but the names escape me. I have a pulse-thermostat set to 26C and the current humidity is about 75%. The thermostat was set to 28 but I read that a higher heat makes them burrow more to escape it.

They burrow to adjust either way, too hot up top, they will go down, too hot near the heat mat, they will move away from it. I say you have nothing to worry about. When she gets hungry she will show up. She has probably sealed herself in her borrow if you cant see the hole. I keep my temps from 76 to 82 degrees. Humidity low to mid 80's. When she comes to the top to feed, make sure you got plenty. Those things have a healthy appetite. Im talking something for them to chew on while they hold something in each claw. I have 3 emps, and I feed once a week and have to use 9 prey items each time. (9 crickets or 9 roaches) But I only make sure they have so much because I want them all to eat. Just makes it easier for each to get their fill if they are all occupied during dinner.
