I think you need to take some good closeup pictures of the chela, telson and carapace. The forest scorpions are often very hard to ID correctly because they look so similar and have so few dissimilarities.

Well, it's either Heterometrus or Pandinus. I'm leaning towards a Pandinus species (cavimanus?), but honestly, I'm not really sure.

The genus Heterometrus has 4 trichobothria on ventral side of the tibia where Pandinus has more than 10 trichobothria on ventral side of the tibia. Your going to need very clear, close up pics.

Helpful things to know would be the instar, sex, and the location the scorp originated from.

Looks like Pandinus (prolly cavimanus) but I'm not well-versed with the ID keys of this genus... Cheers and best regards

3rd instar?
when i first looked at it i was leaning towards Pandinus Cavimanus.
Like others have said it would be nice to have more pictures. the more the better

however, I'm not sure about Pandinus Cavimanus, but I know with Pandinus Imperator that a dark telson like how it looks in your image denotes an adult. White would be a baby, creamy/yellow colour would be a sub adult, and dark brown/red would be adult.

hard to tell the size, and length of the scorp without a picture of the enclosure or anything to compare it to. a nickel, quarter, or something that is naturally in the enclosure.

Pandinus Cavimanus:

2 [since it is after the first image in this thread]

I agree with a female P. cavimanus, I have one right here that looks identical.

Not the best pic for comparison but you can see the resemblance.

I think the chela give away that it is female, here's a pic of my males claw. They're alot larger in comparison to the body and alot flatter, they have kind of an indent to them, unmistakable.

Also I have noticed from the ones I have that males are actually larger than the females. I think this is what makes them slightly harder to breed, my males are so big and aggressive the females really take a battering.

Easy way to I'd cavis is that males have a noticeable dent on the chelae and a pronounced tooth. Size has nothing to do with sex with this species.

edit. That dent makes this species one of the few that are idable at very young ages, believe they can be positively sexed at 3i.

Yes.
Here is a link: Pandinus cavimanus sexual dimorphism.

The things to look for between a female cav and an emp isn't necessarily the color but the shape of the chelae and how smooth they are. (Obviously, you can also sex them by looking at the pectines and operculum.)
