irresponsible owners

latley theres been somthing that has been bothering me a great deal, i like others love to go on youtube and watch Invert videos feeding, moulting, wandering around, ect. and for the most part there are many good and informative vids out there. people like Dr. Spider1984, TruantulaGuy1976, our very own GS make great videos. But then theres the other end of the spectrum, there are dozens and dozens of videos of people, i dont think should be able to care for there own boogers much less any live invert or vert for that matter, who have no idea what they are doing such as feeding scorps pinkys(baby mice), have emps in desert set ups, ect.. then this is what gets me to a rage is people who abuse their scorps and other inverts by poking them for reaction, trying to force feed them and post videos. Two videos have in paticular have me very upset and im sure many of you have also seen these videos. one is of a guy whos been drinking trying to handle multiple H. arizonensis (trying to impress another guy he likes i assume) causing huge amounts of stress getting stung multiple times in process, licking them and dropping one from at least two feet onto tile floor. The other is of some guy who is trying to pick up a A. australis WITH HIS BARE HANDS!!!! this kind of behavior is to me anyways the same as if someone posted a video of them abusing a dog or cat. I belive if you want to have inverts do it for the right reason to observe them and respect them, not go out and buy a hot scorp like a australis just to impress your freinds and potentally put your life and not to mention other in danger. theres not much that can be done to prevent this because there will always be dumb people out there. I love this hobby and i enjoy that other people do too, i just hate to see people make a mockery out of what others like myself and everyone on this and other forums take seriously. Basicly i feel that if people want to own a scorp or other invert/vert do it for the right reasons, do your research and care for them properly and dont go buy the most dangerous scorp you can just to simply be able to say you have it. Anyways im kind of ranting but i need to get it off my chest

Absolutely...some people deserve a damn good slapping....and they'd still be getting of lightly in my books.

A few months ago i happened upon a vid on youtube of some guy that eats disgusting things...anyway, the video was of him eating a live hetrometrus sp....He milked the build up, making out that this "giant scorpion" was as poisonous as it was big...after the 5 minute build up he picked it up by it's metasoma, placed it in his mouth and started crunching, swallowing and opening his mouth at the end to show he had indeed eaten and swallowed this magnificent looking scorpion.

I of course logged on and wrote something to the effect of that he was an idiot and he should leave animals alone, if he wanted to eat disgusting things then why not eat rotten meat and sewerage.........I was trashed by a hoard of brain dead idiots because of it.

If i had seen him doing that in real life i would have slapped him around the face so hard the scorpion would have flown out of his mouth...

I've always known there's plenty of idiots in the world but youtube really highlights it!

I watched an episode of Dual Survival the other night where the barefoot guy was stomping around the boonies and came across what looked like a Centruroides sp. After tearing the telson off with a stick, he popped the scorpion into his mouth and ate it. Hell, if he was that hungry, one of the film crew could have given him a sandwich. I'm sure none of them were eating bark or bugs.

I'd like to see him try to eat a Scolopendra subspinipes.
Yeah, there are a ton of stupid people out there....

I would just like to see more respect and knowledge when caring for these animals, and people should own them for right reasons, not as something to show off to freinds But because you want to own a scorp. thats why this site is so great because we can share with others through pictures and words a common interest and hobby
