PostSubject: Definitely not a male   Definitely not a male Empty7/18/2012, 6:39 pm

I got a large group of inverts (Scorpions, Tarantulas, Centipedes) this was supposed to be a male Asian Forest Scorpion. I haven't been able to determine the species yet but I know it is not a male. It was nice surprise to lift the log and see these little guys there. I've raised baby emperors before, is there anything I should do different for these guys. Any guesses on the species would be appreciated as well but I know I'll probably need better pictures once the babies leave her.

Congrats! cheers

I'd say it's either a Heterometrus laoticus or a Heteromterus petersii. When the scorplings dismount off her back, try to get close up pics of the carapace. Also try to get pics of the patella.

They can be raised the same way.

Thanks everyone. At first I thought I may have mixed up the Male Asian Forest and the supposedly gravid female Emperor. I now know that this is not the case. I never really compared the two but since finding this brood yesterday I did some looking and I can see the difference is pretty obvious. The female Emperor hasn't popped yet but she is getting huge. The funny thing is when I showed this scorpion to a friend a few weeks back and mentioned the gravid female Emperor as well he said "this one looks like she is about to pop also" I laughed and said "that would be a neat trick for a male" Egg on my face I guess.

If you recall I posted back on 7/18 some pictures of my asian forest scorpion with babies. Well, I have separated them from the mom and I was wondering if it was too soon. My emperor babies stuck with mom for almost a month before I really saw them leave her but these babies had been off the mom much more than on her for the last two or three days so I decided to separate them. I know I've seen a few molts in there and they are much darker than the emperors were at the same age. Do asian forests leave the mom sooner than emperors. I guess I'll know if I see the crickets disappearing. Here is a picture of them, there were 22 and I can't believe I got them all in one shot the way they scattered when I lifted the cork bark. Oh yeah, my other female emperor just had a batch of babies as well.

As long as all the scorplings has dismounted from mom's back, it is safe to rehouse them after one week. This is to allow further hardening of their exo-skeletons.

Under similar conditions, about the same.

Congrats! Nice shot of the kids Smile
