Heteropoda venatoria Empty
PostSubject: Heteropoda venatoria   Heteropoda venatoria Empty4/26/2012, 6:55 pm

Hey guys, not been on this in years, litterally. Hope you are all well Smile Not kept anything for a while after I gave most of my last collection of scorps/spiders to the pet shop after moving around a bit, and i'm looking to get back into keep exotics so I ordered one of these huntsmen ("heteropoda venatoria") to start getting back into exotics. they seem quite interesting and i've never kept a true spider so it should be an interesting experience Smile I was just wondering anyone here has any experince with this species in captivity and could give me any advice on care. From what i understand, they're quite a widespread tropical/subtropical species but not much more than that. I'm guessing a temperatue a bit above normal room or around that area and a mainly dry substrate misted a few times a week? not to sure. All I know is that they're arboreal and feed well on small insects, so any other advice would be much appreciated Smile

Welcome back to the forum. Smile

I have not personally kept this species, but I'm sure someone on here does.

I know that Cornell's entomology department has a lot of these. They keep theirs on slightly damp substrate, with plenty of vertical pieces of cork bark. They are extremely fast and are good "escape artists", so make sure you have a secure lid. I'd feed them once a week.

Thank you both, I look forard to expanding my collection again as time goes on Smile a few Vaejovids availible to me right now among others but I don't have the money to throw about atm Sad shame. Thank you for the lead, I googled it but all I can find really regarding this species is everything apart from how to keep them in captivity. But they seem quite hardy, I reckon as long as I don't let them dry out for too long they should be fine.
