Hello,
Recently I decided I want to get a pet scorpion, since I saw them all the time at most of the pet stores I go to. So, about a week and a half ago, I bought an emperor scorpion. I have a ten gallon tank set up with coconut flake substrate mixed with some moss, and a couple curved pieces of bark to hide under. As well as a water dish and a fake plant, I try to keep the temperature between 70-90 using a one of those red night heat bulbs, and mist it as often as possible, I can get it up to 80% but it always drops down to around 40% really quick.
Now, the little guy seemed fine for the first couple days, he would walk around for a bit, and go hide at night. I did notice he tried climbing the walls of the tank a lot. I put a a cricket in the cage and he didn't make any sudden move to go eat it, at times the cricket would just walk right over him and the scorpion wouldn't move. now after maybe 3-4 days passed I stopped seeing it come out of from under the burrow. Even at night or in the early morning he was still underneath the bark. So later I picked it up to look, and he didn't move just stayed still for a while until I nudged it carefully with some tongs I bought at the pet store. and it started moving around a bit, not much though. it stayed under the bark for a long time, I didn't see it eat or even show and sign of acknowledgement to any of the crickets that I put in. I even lifted up the bark and held the crickets in front of him with the tongs. I went to a couple pet stores and they said he could just be getting used to the new environment, and such. I'm getting worried now because I haven't seen it eat and it's now really moving too much. I'm wondering if I should buy another one since they live together in the wild, and maybe it's "lonely", or something.
Any insight from more "experienced" scorpion owners?
