Opisthacanthus capensis

My little girl that I have had for about a year now. She gave birth a few months ago, had about 16 babies, 12 of which survived.

I really like Opisthacanthus. I have two species at the moment, O. madagascariensis and and an unidentified species that was incorrectly sold to me as Heteroscorpion opisthacanthoides (bloody bugzuk).

Yours is really cool. I really like its bluey colour. What were the young like to raise? Are they stupidly slow growing?

Maybe you can post a pic? I might know what it is.
Young were quite easy to raise compared to other scorps and are not that slow growing.
I have raised a couple of these babies before, so trial and error helped a lot.

Oh and the colours are awesome on this spp, if she stays under her bark for a few days she turns completely green. Will try to get pics of the colour.

Here's the un-ID'd Opisthacanthus sp. It arrived at bugzuk at the same time a load of Madagascan inverts did, plus H. madagascariensis, that it was mis-sold as, is obviously from Madagascar, so that's its most likely place of origin.

I might be totally wrong here, but are you sure its from madagascar? Looks very similiar to O.asper.

Over here they are called yellow legged creeper scorpions, for obvious reasons.

I can't definately say it's from Madagascar but it was sold as a Madagascan scorpion species.

There's not enough granulation on the chelae for it to be O. asper I think. That is what's throwing me, as Opisthacanthus sp. chelae generally seem to be quite heavily granulated.

I agree on the granulation after checking some photos. Maybe O. milloti?

How does this one compare to your O. madagascariensis?

Definately different but not disimilar lol.

The pic of the scorpion on the twigs is great. It's colour is stunning and the chelae look amazing.

It's actually the first time i saw that too.
Wondering if it's daylight and the scorplings are trying to get some shade..

Thanks guys. I guess it is kind of strange, but thats how I usually see the scorplings sit on the mother.

It's a long, long gestation period with these guys isn't it??

Callum, I dont know the exact time period, but mine has ranged from 13-15 months. Depending on temps.
