Nice flytrap. Very Happy

I need to repot all my carnivores and clip off the dead stuff from last year's growth.

Unfortunately I don't know where to get seeds shipped internationally. Have you tried pollinating your own plants?

after watching 'Darwens garden' I recently found out we have a native carnivorous plant called the 'sundew' I had no idea we had such a beautiful plant in our country..

So we are ordering one on tuesday Very Happy

I would love to get some more venus fly traps. they are so much easier to keep when you keep tropical pets and therefore have the live food to hand. I'm glad you put this post up because you have reminded me to source some and get some Very Happy

i think this time around I am going to create a proper micro habitat for them, like get a small glass exo terra to keep them in. because i can never keep them naturally in the room in plant pots!

Yeh, they're great! I have had a good few variaties of them.

Lisa: you can pop up a mountain and find sundew, and the other native carnivorous pant (forget its name) in the boggy areas at high altitude! Not particularly rare Smile

Lisa, before you get carried away with habitats and such, know that flytraps are temperate species that require moderate temperatures and a winter dormancy to survive. Some sundews are as well (though some are tropical).

They also don't require you to feed them; they'll catch plenty on their own.

hehehe we have a HUGE colony of harvestman spiders in the house, they eat the stray crickets and silver fish, however in summer we dont have a fly problem because they manage to catch nearly all of them too. so they may need one or two hand fed meals

but thanks for the tip mike, you're like an encyclopedia at times Very Happy

You mean CITES? I dunno . . . some species of Sarracenia (North American pitcher plants) are endangered in the wild, but there's lots of nurseries cultivating them.

i cant work out if this is from this year or last.. anyway, i have tried again by filling a shallow area of the pond with moss (borrowed from wales) and putting in 2 pitchers and 2 flytraps. we will see how it turns out next year but im letting them flower for now.
i also have seeds that have germinated but havent a clue how to feed them they are smaller than any flu i can see!
anyone tried sensitive plants? very weird!

There's probably gnats flying around that are small enough -- unless you have them in a sealed glass enclosure, you shouldn't need to feed them.

i should move them out soon. i am useless with plants but after several attempts at sensitive plants in coco fibre and compost, i got 3 germinations on tissue paper so thats what the flytraps and sundews are on. no pitchers germinated though Sad
