PostSubject: Heating question.   11/29/2011, 9:59 pm

I currently have 13 3i and 4i Emps that were separated from their mother when she passed. I live in Florida, so heating isn't usually an issue. But now that we are approaching winter, I'm having a hard time keeping the temperature above 70-80 degrees. And It's only going to get colder. My question is, What would you recommend I do about heating? I've been using a 4x8 Zoo Med heat pad on the side of a 15 gallon glass aquarium. Any help would be appreciated. Smile

EXO TERRA makes a ceramic heat emitter ( I use the 100w version ) it puts out heat ...it's a ceramic element....but puts out no light (scorp friendly) I use it in my 10 gal tank. I also have a terrarium heat pad on the same end, so that one end is warm and the other side is cooler, both are connected to a ZOO MED REPI TEMP 500R THERMOSTAT that is used to regulate the temp...works great for my emp, but have to mist more often as things tend to dry out faster....hope this helps...good luck.

IR heat lamps are good too. You can connect them to a dimmer or just increase the distance between the lamp and the enclosure if you need to lower the temp.
Petstore heatpads are no good in my opinion. I use DIY heatmats made from floorheating elements.

IR heat lamp is an excellent choice.

I wanted to thank you all very much! I purchased a 60w bulb, and the temp is going up!
