Hi Duneboy, can you give us the location of where you are? I know it says Middle East under your name but actual country would be good. It'll help narrow down possibilities then Very Happy .

At that size it is probably only a juvenile which makes it even more difficult to identify. I am only using one of my books but maybe Compsobuthus sp. ?? It could also be one of the many other something buthus or Buthus something genera that are found in Saudi Arabia.

I am no expert on Saudi Arabian scorpions though but that's my best quess.

What have you done with the scorpion??

It's currently in a temporary
Home in the kitchen, I made it up out of some sand, a few rocks and a drinking area made from cotton wool. I wanted to know what it wad before releasing it.

I've had snakes and gekko's before so have a little experience in reptile habitats Smile

The Scorpion Fauna- Saudi Arabia

I'm no expert but this should be an accurate list, with exception to Pandinus and Scorpio which this scorp is not, they're all Buthidae or Hemiscorpius so exercise caution.

Well I had a look through the galleries on various websites.

looking at the photo's, the closest one i could match it too was a Apistobuthus pterygocercus.

he/she was quite happily scurrying across the garden as I let it go.

I would have considered keeping it, but the care sheet said its not exactly a starter Scorp.

Thanks for your help guys.

Maybe I could look at getting one when I come back to the UK, im sure the wife would love that

well if it's out of reach of kids and numpty friends, you may as well keep it
set it up a 5 gallon tank, with a mesh lid or similar
give it sand and stones etc from where you found it, give it water from a bowl, not a large bowl, far smaller than the scorpion

it's most likely a buthid, apart from that.. i haven't a clue
