i seen pics of desert species on black sand.i made a mini viv for a bark when they grow up.could they live on that black sand or would it be a stressor as they arent camouflaged at all against it.do i need to mix it with anything, wet it and pack it down?

Sand color doesn't matter as much as what comprises the sand in general... I like to mix some peat or coco with my sand for desert animals at a 65/35 ratio of sand to peat!

Good Luck,

Rob

Black sand tends to have larger granules too compared to regular sand.

You can get black sand that isn't calcium sand, and has small granules if that's what you are looking for.

I've heard mixed things about calcium sand. I remember reading that it can gum up their lungs though... Not sure how true that is. I don't ever use it so I haven't any first hand knowledge.
