Safe to keep together?

Today I got my second emp (female) I put her in the tank with my other (male). At first they kinda checked eachother out. About 5 hours later I found them fighting claws and stingers. The female goes right for it and constantly tries to sting the male then runs away. I did see him go after her a few times. I fed them both and still fighting.
I only have one hide at the moment, so I was wondering are they over space or mating? It is only the first day with both, but I don't want either to get hurt, particularly the male because he's smaller than her. Do they need to be separated?

What size tank do you have? Put more hides in there asap.
Leave them alone afterward and hope for the best.

I dont think emps use their stingers for mating.

i was going to get more first thing tomorrow, for now the male has a deep hole. but sometimes they hang out in the hide together, maybe its them getting used to eachother?

the tank is maybe 5 gal. maybe bigger

I would separate them, re-arrange the tank, so the male one won't recognize it as his territory, then put them back. Female first, then the male.

Males are more territorial than females, so when you put female to a male's tank, it's more likely for a territorial fight to take place than if you put a male to a female's tank.

I did the same thing you did and they fought the same way you described. Like the others said, it's just the male being territorial. Mine got over it in a couple of hours, they're hardly apart anymore and share the same hide.

Thanks everyone I'm going to try it right away, they're calm but separate right now.
Another question on something i noticed after they fight or just come in contact they both get a drink or bath themselves, and my male never used to really touch the water, whats up with that?
