A behavior question regarding moisture

I recently put in a moist papertowel and put his container partially in the sun, as I've been told they like humidity to molt.

I uncovered the bark today to see that he was not in it. In fact, he was under the wet paper towel!

My question is why, and is this a better place for him to be than the log?

Sunlight can quickly turn your tank into an oven so be careful. As for the humidity question, they will decide what's best for them at the moment. Sometimes they'll soak up some moisture, and other times they don't seem to care at all. My guess was that it was feeling a bit parched. You can try providing two hiding spots. Hmm, cool. I'll make sure to keep that towel moist then as he seems to enjoy it.
