PostSubject: Prairie Rattler   6/24/2011, 2:15 pm

Howdy all,
I was out Scorp hunting today in a gravel pit and managed to wrangle a small Prairie Rattlesnake. I would say it's 14-15 inches long and maybe an inch wide at it's thickest girth. Does anyone know anything about Western rattlers that would be helpful in temporary care. I will probably only have it for a few weeks just to observe it and better what I know about them. Thanks all!

Pluto: That is exactly why I am NOT taking any risks, small or other with him. I know full well what he's capable of and I respect him for it. He is really cool to have though.
Pics in a couple minutes!

Beautiful and Awesome but also Very Very Scary !!!

I've tailed deathstalkers ,yellow and black fat tails and never cracked a sweat (by the way very dumb of me) but I've never been as scared as I was when dealing with that.
You think you know how quick they are and then they surprise you, and then you have to change your underwear LOL.

Just be careful I can't say it enough.

oh yeah invest in a good snake hook .

Lol good way to lose an arm, leg, finger or part of your tummy...
If it dont kill you, you always have lingering troubles afterward because of the necrotic effects of these snake bites (rattlers and other vipers)

Wyatt,

Just heard from my boy, he said they're pretty much the same as your average desert scorp .
Keep them between 80-90 degrees with relatively low humidity ,if possible a basking spot around 90 or so they love to bask. If you notice it is about to shed while you have it bump up the humidity a little. Hope this helps.
Good Luck and Be Safe !

Hey man Thanks, that'll help ALOT. Bex: I used my scorp forceps! LOL! I was shaking like a leaf but kept my hand steady and just pulled it out from under her rock. She hates my guts but she's really mellowed out the past couple days.
