Old world T's

I am looking to buy one. One specifically OBT.

Any keepers here? Can anyone tell me more about old world T's. Any recommened supplier UK?

They are awesome! And, if you like the type, even very pretty.
You have Murinus in two colour variants, and one mental state: psycho.

They have quite the macho touch to them and they will make you laugh occasionally.
Fast, defensive and otherwise unconspicuous.

They survive almost all we keep them in as they are very very strong arachnids. THis is why I think they are a very good species from the novice to the advanced. First you cannot do much wrong with them for their own sake. Secondly you will learn how fast spiders react.

Don't worrie, if you use a brain you will not get bit. They are not fast on the biting either.. mostly showing off.

They have, however, if they get you a nasty bite (as most OWTs). Flipside of the story is that they dont have urticating hairs. Imho, that is the biggest positive side of them by far. You will not get a rash by being around them as flickipelma's (thanks pelo) do cause.

They are meant as a display spider and to take care of. They are not suited to be handled. If you want to handle your spider, I would say obts would be the last spider i'd recommend.

You basically keep them pretty warm and pretty dry on a lot of substrate since they dig and love to dig. They will spin a lot of webbing around their burrow. In fact I think no other OWT webs as much as an OBT.

You wont regret it. Lastly, they are pretty cheap too.

Where are you mate? I have a couple of young uns for sale. Also just mated my female up again so more should be on the way soon. They are awesome spiders and as Pluto says, tough as old boots.
Only way to kill them is a bloody big boot on them.

You won't regret getting an OBT. They are great spiders, and as Pluto and pelo have stated, extremely adaptable. Very hardy spiders.

Yeah they're cool spiders. I'm trying to get a female. Males don't live that long I hear.

I will get it's box set up before I buy one. Is cocofibre and moss good for em and how deep do they like to dig?

I keep mine on a mix of sand and coco fiber. Mixed them together when the coco was still moist and packed it down to dry. They do not like much humidity, bone dry substrate with an occasional misting. I give mine a water dish as well. These spiders all have a different preference as far as hiding does. Some will burrow, some will use a pre-made hide, and some will climb. Give them a good four inches of dirt and something to hide under. They will be happy. One time mine built this giant pillar of dirt up to the top of the cage and spun a web tube all around it. That was pretty cool.

Are spiderlings easy to raise? They grow quickly?

They are, and they do! Very quickly.

I will get a female spiderling. Keep her in a small tub till she grows a bit. Then put the tub in the larger box and just let her come out herself as they are pretty fast, pretty crazy.

How defensive are P murinus spiderlings?

In my experience they are just as defensive as the adults. Very fast.

The spiderlings are fast but not bitey. They start getting bitey when they get around 1" body.
Cyanide, it's very hard- almost impossible to sex spiderlings so you tend to have to take pot luck.

I'd definitely recommend an OBT, I love mine even though it's still tiny, cant wait for it to start getting an attitude. Their webbing is insane.

So you see how unpredictable they can be. One second you almost get heartache from seeing it being clumsy.. the other split second, it is poef gone.

Yeah. I wouldn't be prodding about at it like that. I dunno what that dude was doing. Maybe trying to get a threat pose from it. The king baboons hiss. That's pretty cool.

Yeah, kings make a real good crackling sound when they are bigger but IMO the best of all is H. minax- Thai Black.
I used to use one as a timer.
Walk into the spider room, lift minax lid and replace then start feeding spiderlings.
When she shut up hissing, striking the floor and biting the wood I'd stop feeding stuff.
Always took around 2 hours for her to calm down......

I had a Blondi once like that. Ill tempered specimen. I was actually glad that [does your mother know you talk like that?] died of old age. It was no fun to get hissed and lunged at everytime you walked passed it.

It was an adult male. Those things got HUGE fangs. Even if not highly venomous, I doubt you'd put a smiley on with one of those wrapped around your wrist.
