Guys I saw my P trans with weird, odd looking activity

While she is cleaning her pedipalp, she bent her tail and like stinging itself Sad

Is she sick that way?

Heres the vid ( sorry for the noise and all the movements and for the quality, I used my phone ) lol!

She's definitely not sick my friend Smile
Occasionally, mine does that as well. The telson moves in a circular motion touching its "central eye group" and basically over the "forehead". That contact area becomes moist during this process. Some even say that it appears to be using its venom to do some sort of "self-cleaning"...

I'd say they dont sting themselves. I'd say they use their telson as a teethpick. Or maybe the venom contains enzymes that brake down dead matter.. or at least kill bacteria and fungi. That would be my guess.

i'm not sure..
they are a desert species i think, so you'd need some high temps to dry them out :/

If a scorpion is subject to temps. higher than 50-65c it's tail agitates and becomes level with it's mesosoma and in some cases the telson pierces the membrane between it's tergites. The scorpion then stops moving and dies, whether it has stung itself or not.
This info was knicked from 'Scorpions of the World' but just thought I would add it as I thought it was really interesting lol. It's crazy how even a desert species of scorpion that is so resistant to drought has a tipping point and dies so quickly and in such a weird way when exposed to high temps.

Just to clarify, I wasn't saying this is what the OP's scorpion is doing as I doubt it is 65c in the tank lol. Just amazing that a scorpion dehydrates so quickly at high temps and commits a kind of pseudo suicide lol.

They have a wax coating on their chitinous exo. They never dry out. They can overheat though.

At those temps it is extreme dehyrdration that kills them. From the book lol, 'in fact, it has been severely dehydrated, often irreversibly. Above a certain temperature (50-65c), evaporation from the tegument intensifies and the ''faintin'' bout can be explained by physiological changes in the internal medium (concentration of blood) and an action on the nervous system.

If it has water and food, desert species will not dehydrate fast (i doubt ever, if they have a source to replenish themselves)... it will die though, from being cooked. Scorpions do have a certain temperature range they like to keep their body in.

knock yourself out here

It says, that they do dry out faster at higher temperatures, but usually dehydration only happens to a lethal extend when no water recuperation is possible ea: prey or other water sources. It will still die at those temps though.
