Heya guys, I'm wanting to rehome my juvenile H. Petersii so i can keep them induvidually or in pairs, I was planning on moving them into cricket boxes cause theyre still quite small but cant think of how to heat the mproperly and evenly without having to place a heat mat under the tubs, i was thinking of placing the tubs into a larger box so the heat will course evenly around the tubs but I'm not sure this will work.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Thanks a lot!! Smile

Hi whisperer, exactly my idea.

Make an isolated dark larger box (styrofoam) in which you put your cricket keepers.
Heat the box with a heat mat wrapped around a towel or some sort of buffer so it doesnt touch the cricket keepers.

Make sure the lid closes well and add ventilation holes... check the heat in it, or install a thermostat. done

The darkness and the temperature will make your small ones to grow larger and faster.

Basically it is what I did for all my inverts.. but on a larger scale (for this I needed heat lamps to supply a gradient of temperatures)

Scorpling, sling tray of the big box (middle tray)

It works well

Cool, was thinking something liek that, although not using styrofoam just a plastic box with not too much ventilation so the heat stays in n gets distrubuted evenly around the smaller boxes, should work eh?

Yes, but plastic loses heat pretty fast, and it is clear... this way the animals will sit in daylight, which they don't really like.

They like it dark and cosy.

But it really is up to you since these are details.

Set it up and left it for a few days to see how it would work before moving the scorps in, temperatures at a steadt 30C

there's no "cool zones" though cuase the air in the box is whats giving the heat, is this safe?

Turn it down a notch or two then, will be ok... Suspect
Solid point though, that is why I use lamps on the back so they have a heat source that they can "feel" and i dont turn up the heat to 30+ degrees
