What the hell is this?

Right guys, ive just moved the big flat rock out of our emp tank and was shocked to find this "thing" living under it!

I have no idea what it is im hoping some of you do, am i being really stupid?? its just over an inch long out flat,
who knows well heres the pics,

Its a mealworm pupa isnt it, god how freaky just looked it up didnt even know mealworms turned into beetles!!

lol its only recently i posted about the fact i hate mealworms coz they freak me out with all that wiggling and burrowing off.....now im proepr freaked lolz no more mealies for me, i havent actually fed them to scorps since that time i put one in and it just buggered off, sure that it wasnt the emp tank that it happened though lol but obviously must of been, im gonna keep it and feed it lol i want a beetle now hehehe

Lol I actually do remember you saying that the other day! I haven't used them for mega years to be honest because of the low nutrition value to Beardies. Haha I wouldn't have the slightest clue what to feed that, must be quite a big beetle to come from a mealie.

Lol, yeah, mealworm turns to that then into a floour beetle.
If you prod the pupa it'll twitch. Spiders love them so scorps might as well.

I didn't know what it was exactly, but I could tell it was in its pupa stage. I was going to ask what prey items you fed it to narrow it down as well, but glad it's not from the Alien movies lol Hard to believe meal worms could get even uglier!

how do you make it turn into this thing on purpose?

I dunno stick A mealworm in a tub of substrate and let it burrow away lol, then check on it about a month later??? Kind what happened here lol

i have never seen one turn into that in the container they are sold in

Me either lol freaky things, they like it dark warm and moist, and are found under rocks normally, so must of been perfect conditions for it in the tank lol

Well our pupa finally turned into a beetle, and my 5 year old daughter Lexie has decided she wants to keep it so it's hers now lol bless her, they seem to get along well how cute are they

Oh and she has gone to bex with it next to her on Her bedside drawer lol ( in a cricket tub )

Had 2 mealies turn to pupae before but still fed them to my scorp..
she enjoyed eating them anyway..

Maybe i'll consider raising beetles.. hmmm...

Bex, is it just the pic, or is that beetle enormous?
Mine are all just 15-20mm long.

BTW, the Iurus loves freshly turned beetles. He never eats the larvae but as soon as it turns into the beetle, he eats it.

yeah its too big for mealworm :S maybe it is zophobas morio??i think it is....my gecko often eat the beetles which turn into her cage from mealworms that escape!!

i dunno its a couple of cm in length, my daughter is only 5 so it prly looks huge in her hand lol, its from the big long worms you get not the small fatty things

yeah it zophobas morio beetle mealworm's beetle is about 1cm or less.

thats what i was thinking.. is it morio? because that is a big 'ole beetle.
