PostSubject: dry stings?   4/19/2011, 1:02 pm

hi everyone.
can and do all scorpions dry sting as a warning.
just want to know, since i think my more evil of the two Euscorpius flavicaudis tagged me, well i think it did. it felt like a really small injection, and hurt for maybe a second.
my own fault. i moved some moss, he was in it.
thanks,
Tom

hahaha im sure one of mine tagged me but it felt like a pin prick/scratch sensation, will never know for sure but im pretty certain it did, obviously not a hot species so the worst you could prly get is a slight burning numb sensation i guess, unless your one of the unfortunate that have a bad reaction of course which can always happen so i would advise you to be more careful Smile

They can sting with a pre-venom. I read it the other day while researching a Buthid or 2.
The pre-venom is mainly to cause pain, so the scorp can do a runner.
Not 100% sure about this and wouldnt wanna try it but that's what I read.

I been keeping spiders and scorps now for 19 years and never been bitten or stung.
I just live by the rule "dont get near it and it cant get you"

hmmm if i did get tagged then i would have to say no not comparable to a mosquito (in my case) as i am allergic to mosquitos and can swell really bad from one bite, thats what worried me initially about getting scorpions in the first place, i tend to have real bad reactions to mosquitos and wasp stings so am actually quite scared about scorp stings, i got biten on the ankle once and it swelled to the size of a small football!

But thats the main point, you cant really compare to other peoples reactions to things, a mosquito bite to you may be nothing, but one to me may mean not walking and no shoe fitting my foot for 2 weeks lol (doesnt happen every time though)

it all depends on the person, as to what reaction you get so all scorpions should be treated with the fact that they may be deadly as you never know until your stubg! Smile

All scorpions have the potential to dry sting, but don't count on it, especially with a buthid.

well as we cant keep buthids no worries there lol Smile but i would still say dont count on it which anything , my cousin got stung by a wasp on his neck (was 28 at the time) and he had to go to hospital coz his throat swelled up so much he couldnt breath Shocked

this is what scares me lol, sensitivity to stuff like that runs in the family lol, makes me be extra careful
