Right now, there is some debate about what species this really is. Usambara is an illegal common name (hence the quotes). The current word is that the "Usambara" varieties (orange and red) are probably just highland color morphs of P. murinis, though it is still possible they are a separate species. Whatever it is, "Usambara" is the only real way to get across what you're talking about right now when you want to mention this species. They are beautiful monsters though! This species is supposedly from the Usambara region of Africa (near Kenya)? They like it dry and live in a variety of opportunistic retreats (i.e. anywhere they can find shelter, even off the ground).

Temperment:
She's a firey, psycotic beast. Fortunately, she's not prone to running around like the cobalt, but she'll basically flip over backwards in her threat position, striking at the air, jumping around and hissing. Combined with her bright, firey colors, she closely resembles a flaming ball of death. Not to be messed with at all!

Nice shots Bro! That is exactly what I have and I was led to believe they were Usambara. Are they just illegal in Belgium? And why, do you know?
What you described about their demeanor is what everyone else says but ironically I have 9 of 10 left and they are all mellow as all get up. They tong feed and I have yet to see a threat posture in the year or so I have had them. I gave the 10th one to my neighbor who experiences the same as I.
Please though, nobody assume they are like mine though as I seem to have some exceptions to the rule and everyone else I know describe them just as Valko has. So I believe they have earned their reputation.
But Valko, I'm sure you will agree these are truly more beautiful than any picture has ever depicted! I love the orange!

Yes its is illegal but apart from Brussels if you have the license you can maintain until 30 animals (Nac).
It is simple: In Brussels ALL is interdict except cat and dog !

To the best of my knowledge, there are 4 P. murinus in the hobby now but you only ever see the 2 colour forms. The "common" one, from Usumbara is orange to red in colour and the Golden starburst (or simply Starburst- or even more simply OBT(Orange Bitey Thing)) is from mombassa and is the origional one in the hobby.
VERY easy to rear, VERY easy to mate and pretty cheap to buy here in UK.
Def one of my favorite species, fast, nasty and beautiful.

I have none myself since the last computer blew up but a very quick Google pulled one up. You can see the Golden Starburst colour is a quite different to the Usumbara colour.CLICK HERE
