PostSubject: S. mesaensis/H. spinigerus re-housing (PIC HEAVY)   3/30/2011, 7:40 am

Hello all.
Got some pics here from when I re-housed my S. mesaensis recently. It had molted in perfect timing and was hungry so I went abit mad with the camera Very Happy

You can see parts of the molt in these pictures.

These two are un-cropped as close as my macro lens would focus, this is scorp is still tiny.

And this is the new tank I've set up for it. I'm not 100% happy with it but it will do for now. I need to cover the pot up more and as I predicted it burrowed down the side of the pot instead of the pre-started burrow under the slate, typical. I know it looks like I've got a thin layer of sand and the rest coco fibre but it's because I put a thin wall of coco fibre around the edge to stop the sand scratching the perspex when I compacted it.

There's more but I'd better stop there Very Happy Cheers for looking.

Cheers, unfortunatly there's none of these for sale atm. I got it from my usual rep shop Scales and Fangs which means it originally come from spidershop. It's one of my favorite scorps, lightening quick.

The plant is a succulent from the family Haworthia which I picked up from garden centre with a couple others from the same family. The family is recommended in two natural terrarium books i have as being good for enclosure because they tolerate not beng watered too often, like it warmer and don't need too much light. One of them has started sprouting new plants out the side.

Ok i'll stick some more up, got to wait to get home to convert from raw to jpeg on photoshop though. Think i got a couple macro videos of it too.

Ooh just found a place selling them but I have no idea on their reputation and they're kind of expensive.

I know that is really expensive, i wouldn't pay it myself. Mine was 25 but I suppose they are sub-adult and mine was like a baby. Have you ever seen that site before? just randomly came up on search.

Your new Tank looks very good! You bring me on a idea. how do yo make it with the temperature? It is open on the top? Or did you put a cover on the top.

Thank you, I'm glad it's brought you ideas. Yes the tank has a lid and I just sit it with the back wall against a heat mat. This was just after putting it in there so I had the lid off for pics.

Thanks GS! I'm in the middle of re-housing everything into simplistic natural enclosures. I have a matching one of these tanks for my H. spinigerus that's drying out at the moment.

Cheers H. laoticus, erm it's a relatively new camera but have had it for about 6 months, I think I'm just finally learning how to use it better! Very Happy

Anyone got ant ideas how I could hide the pot better in these? I was going to just cover it with loose sand but then relised when I go to take the pot out to water it all the loose sand will fall down in the hole and be a pain.

haha Very Happy we're ALL weird! I don't mind it too much but the lil bugger has burrowed down the side of the pot instead of the burrow under the stone. Typical!!

Thanks mate.

Drilling holes shouldn't be a problem, if anything better because you can put the exact amount of holes you want for the right amound of ventilation. Could probably do with a few more holes on mine. I'd go really careful drilling though.

Well I just rehoused my V.spinigerus and got some pics, thought I might aswel put them in here seeing as they've got matching enclosures.

Just after I dug her up and scooped her out.

In the new house.

Looks like she's actually going to use the burrow I started instead of down the side of the flower pot.
Very Happy

What are the measurements on those individually? I want to put a small cactus in mine too but i think mine is way too small its like 3.5x3.5

Vin, dono if you are in the states or over in Europe, but those containers hes got are only made over in Europe, closest thing is what I got acryilic and I got them at containerstore.com they are SUPER cheap, I got mine for 3 bucks and drilled my own holes. I have a container store locally so I didnt have to get it shipped.

Cheers guys.

They was 18 free delivery, dimensions are 8inch x 6inch x 6inch.

Yeah I think they those containers may be too small for a cactus or plant because they do up the humidity abit which you don't really wan't with desert species.

Great display enclosures for UK people:

Mines 7.25x4x4, 8x6x6 is perfect but I cant find any at the store with those measurements then again its huge and I didnt look everywhere

The space in mine is the same size as a deli cup for its not too bad and for 3 bucks cant really complain cause they do look nice and the lid is huge :p
