Post reviews / questions / assorted whatnot about blacklighting supplies here.

I purchased this UV LED flashlight last summer (except I bought it when they carried an identical flashlight without "scorpion" or "arachnid" in the name that cost $5 less ). It works great for illuminating my scorps, but it drains batteries pretty fast. It's INCREDIBLY bright with new batteries though. Mine's the 28-LED model; there's also 49- and 14-LED models available. (I imagine they have different rates of battery drain.)

I should note that I haven't successfully found scorpions outdoors with it (yet). The only times I've gone blacklighting with it I just found either thousands of airsoft pellets or fluorescent lichens.

Is it true that WC glow brighter than CB or enclosure kept?

I read that scorpions glow best between 360 and 370nM, but anything between 275-450nM will work.

I've noticed a lot of the ebay UV lights are 390nM~. The quality LEDs are 400nM~.

I am also guessing that it depends on the species. Some glow better than others.

Not that I've noticed . . . I imagine that if you used a blacklight on your scorps way too much, one that you've kept for a long time will be dimmer than a fresh WC.

Well I recieved my new 51 LED UV flashlight from LEDwholesellers last night. I will have to admit it is awesome. The first thing I did was looked at my scorps and they glew like it was going out of style. After that I went outside and shined it on my brick wall. From 10 feet away I lit up a C. Sculpturatus. There is no way I could miss him. Even 20 feet away you would still be able to spot him. The beam pattern at 5 feet is about 3 feet in width. I would recommend this to anyone. It has a rugid design and runs off of 3 AAA batteries. Not to mention the batteries I used were on their way out and the light still performed as stated.

They are if used continuasly, its ok to use them now and again for a few seconds, also black lights are crucial if your gonna go out collecting from the wild, we would have never found any E.flavicaudis without a blacklight

So then I'm assuming Infrared is fine because that's what you recommended to have on suitable for 24/7 .

Yeah apparenrly Infrared is fine as its very low uv, and infrared is not seen by the scorpion thus not disturbing it

Currently, it has 111 reviews on Amazon with a 4.5/5 average rating, which is pretty good. It is a 395 nM 51 UV Ultraviolet LED blacklight that uses 3 AA batteries (included, too!). It cost me about $20 after taxes and all. My review: It's awesome for the price! It's not only powerful (I've tested it at 15 and 20 feet distances), but it also also very sturdy and well-built. Great product that I would recommend. I haven't been using it very long, but you can read the reviews if you want to check out other peoples' opinions on it.
