As per everyone's other request . . .

Here's a couple of the slings that Eddy sent me:

One of the brown widow slings from the eggsac he sent:

And, just for fun, a sling from one of my friends' sacs:

Oh wow it's so much easier to see them like that than it is with my own eyes. These guys are tiny.

I don't have pinheads or fruitflies -- I just headcrushed a first instar B. dubia.

The cubes are actually microscope slide boxes. Very Happy Works great for slings.

The slide boxes? A buddy of mine and Lori's from AB works in a vet diagnostics lab and gets her hands on all sorts of goodies. I can ask her if she knows where to find some more.

hmm those brown widow sacks I was gonna sent you turned up and I found an adult in my front yard today (THATS RARE FOR WHERE I LIVE). The eggsack hatched and I probably only have 20 out of 1000 that are still alive.

Cool. You should see if you can get a male out of that and breed them. Very Happy

That's why you leave each sac in its own container sealed with nylon. Very Happy After a while you'll be left with a much more manageable number of slings.

Captain, that's something that you could start a fresh thread for. This one's a year and a half old.

PostSubject: Re: Widow slings   7/28/2011, 11:07 pm

I have a Black Widow and I looking for some care for the slings. I found her about a month ago. Very thin and no male present. I fed her crickets, meal worms. Once she got full she deposited an egg sac. I want to know where to get info on caring for them., before they hatch.

Thanks!!!
