PostSubject: Enclosure size for H.Arizonensis   2/17/2011, 6:15 pm

Hi.

What would the ideal enclosure size be for an adult desert hairy?
I might be getting one in the next couple of weeks.
Would something like 10"x10"x10" be too small? I have a soon to be free tank that measures 20"x10"x10". Should I use the whole tank just for the desert hairy, or would it be enough if I'd split the tank and use the other half for my new emp (he/she is still 3i and ATM housed in a 8"x8"x8")?

Also, I might be getting 2 or 3 emp scorplings soon, so would it be too risky to A.keep the 3i and the scorpling all together; B. keep the 3i alone and keep the scorplings all together? Or should I go for C. keep all the emps separated and introduce into a communal setup only after all of them reach maturity?

I keep mine in an 18x12x12 glass tank.

Might be a little bit too big but he likes it so I'm not changing it.

Mine is in a 15 x 10 x 10 glass tank with about 4 inches of sand to burrow into. It doesnt really need an enclosure this large but its a nice looking and cheap tank. It used to live in a 12 x 8 x 8 glass tank clearseal tank which was fine. Ill try and take some pics for you.

@Bex
Nice decoration skills!
I love those exoterra enclosures, should definitely get one in future...for now I'll just stick to DIY Smile
Do you have any memories how many lbs of sand you used in there?
I will probably split for the H.A. 10" or 12" out of the tank I have and use the rest for the emp. I found some black and red desert sand in 5lbs packs, wondering if one would be enough (would be mixed 70:30 with excavator sand) or if more than 1 pack is needed, I could combine both colours with some kind of pattern.

Can't take credit for this one I'm afraid, my fiancee Luke did it, um I think we used a whole 15kg bag of Childrens play sand (2.99 from argos) in there with a bit of excavator 80 sand to 20 excavator I just got a cup and did 4 sand to 1 ex and mixed it all in a box wetting it with hot water then he put it in in layers compacting down a lot and I used a hairdryer on each level ( about an inch-2 inches) to help dry it out in layers ( still took a week to dry out completely so make sure u have a temp container or plenty of time before u need to put scorp in Smile

Well, I just confirmed the order from my friend today. I ended up not getting the desert hairy.
I ordered 2 couples of Mesobuthus Martensii instead Smile

Would a 8x12x8" (D x W x H) be way too small for an Arizonensis? It's what I have ATM that could be free'ed in an instant. It would be kind of temporary though, atleast until I get something like a 12x12x12" done.

I made this for my mouses - screen top, and front sliding doors.
