So this is my female H. troglodytes. Shes real fat right now and im not sure how old she is because i bought her as an adult. Shes not eating right now but that doesnt really mean one thing or the other right now. She could be pregnant, she could be molting, she could just not want to eat, but she is pretty fat! What do you guys think?

Not a trog, but an H. paucidens. You can tell by the yellow bands on the edge of each tergite.

Based on how small she is, I'd guess she's getting ready to molt. Adults of this species are pretty large.

I'd also suggest giving her a few narrow crevices in which to hide. I've found stacking imitation rock coasters works pretty well.

Thanks alot man! information like that is exactly the reason why I joined this site. Id definitely like to sharpen up my id skills! So what instar do you think she is? I know that Hadogenus take a notoriously long time to molt but judging by how fat she is how far along do you think that process is (just a guess, i know its not an exact science)

I'm also guessing it's a molt because she's pretty small. And yes, they enjoy squeezing themselves in between crevices, so stacking rock slates would be a great habitat for it. Here's a link to someone else' setup that I think is superb: http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=173244&highlight=flat+rock+setup

Lol, im not that green dudes Laughing

Im using a piece of cork bark which makes a very nice little cave for here I know she doesnt need the water but Id always catch my old ones drinking so i ficured it couldnt hurt. The small yellow lid is for a few cheerios and an onion cube for the crickets to eat. I dont want them to starve if the scorp doesnt want to eat them.

I can't say for sure on what instar she is, but I'd wager there are at least two molts before adulthood.

Interesting. well shes pretty fat. I wonder if i should take the crickets out of the container, or if it'll be a while and i should leave them in the container on the off chance that she may partake in one of them. I lifted her bark cave earlier this morning to peak in on her and she looked a little fatter than she did yesterday. From reading some of you guys's other threads about rock scorpions, It seems the consensus that these guys dont like to move around and just stay in their hides before they will molt. Last night she was all over the place in there at about 2:00 AM

Take the crickets out and try again in a week. Crix can and will nibble on a molting scorpion while they're soft.

Hadogenes can go for a long periode without eating, that would might even be adult. I have seen some smaller ones now and then. My female wasnt even that big when she got younglings Very Happy but try not to overfeed her..
