Subject: Heterometrus spinifer Breeding Project 12/20/2010, 11:06 am
Hey guys,
I suspect that my Heterometrus Spinifer is gravid but i do not eliminate the possiblity of just fatness. She is a full grown adult and has been separated from a communal setup for 2-3 months due to her aggressiveness towards other spinifers.
Pse comment if you think she is simply Fat or Gravid. Any insights will be great! Thanks

Ps: Yes she (Top left) is the one who ate her tankmate few months ago.

you can clearly see the nerve cord through the intersegmental membrane, great pics!

Make sure you keep her nice and humid, and give her a good hiding place.
BTW Bix, it's apparently the scorpion's heart you see through the membrane. I always thought it was the nerve cord as well until reading The Biology of Scorpions.

Not yet bro. Base on my rough estimation.. now could be about 4-6mths along the gestation period. Well first thing i did when i return from work everyday (without fail).. is to take a torch and shine in her burrow for a sec, looking out for white spots.. lol

I believe quite a few species can live together in harmony while being provided with the right enclosure conditions, ample hides and food. There could be a higher success rate for communal adults settings as they don't have to go through molts which makes them vulnerable.
