Hi mate, nice scorps. Only thing i'd suggest is changing the substrate to something like coco fibre. Those wood shavings look very dry and don't look very good for burrowing. Just my thoughts.

+1 def change the emps substrate asap , emps like to burrow + need humidity neither of these will they get with wood chip or whatever that stuff is, kepping them on that will only stress them out and shorten there life

agree with the above, it really doesnt look humid at all so you will have trouble when they molt, and they will be stressed. they also need a certain humidity to ensure they can breathe properly.

They weren't dry at all. I soak them with the kitchen sink hose. That picture was taken almost immediately after. They were very wet. They also go under them all the time.

The current setup is a little different now. I changed it up a bit on Saturday. I'll explain it later or show it off when I'm not being fat and lazy.

Those wood chips "or whatever" is cypress. It holds humidity very well and for a long time.

The scorpions were purchased in October at a local expo. The guy I bought them from told me to use cypress because of something. I'm not exactly sure what he said. It was a while ago. But he told me he's always used cypress for his emperors. They were obviously doing just fine.

I have a lot of that fiber stuff. Almost half a closet full of the bricks because I use it for my monitor.
As I just mentioned, the setup is different now. Over the weekend I changed it to a coconut fiber + cypress combination. I actually like the way it looks better right now. I'm always open for suggestions.

No. I'm really done. In my introduction post from when I first signed up here I mentioned that scorpions really aren't a hobby of mine at all. I'm mainly a reptile guy. I have six snakes and a small monitor. If I get anything else, it will be one of those. I've been thinking of a few more lizards when some space clears up. Unless someone just gives me a scorpion, I won't have another. I'm not buying anymore.

I actually don't like bugs. I don't even touch my emperors and never will because they kind of creep me out, and those are probably the most docile. I just can't do it.
It's not too often you see a large, tattooed bald guy who screams like a little girl when a small spider crawls across his desk. Yeah, that's me. Laughing

So that covers the emperors. What about the desert hairy? Anything I should know or do there? I actually think he's a lot cooler than the emperors.

It's good you've made a change mate but I'd probably still just recommend coco fibre, I honestly can't see any benefit from it over coco fibre although I've never seen cypress mulch first hand before. Going under it is one thing but actually building a burrow is another, it want's to be able to hold the burrow.

Also it's only another tip but I let my tap water sit out in a bottle for a day before use to let the chlorine die down.

As for the Haddy can't really see the set-up but did you wet the sand, pack it down and let it dry out or loose sand because I've found mine to be alot happier when It can make a nice burrow just like the emps. That's not to say people don't keep them fine on loose sand.

It's pretty much all fiber. The cypress is just on top on the fiber at the end of the tank. I have the hide thing on top of the cypress. I just did it that way so they can't bury it.
