| Hey guys, I picked 2 of these up at a show a little while ago, and were told that they are a rare species of flat rock scorpions. Can anyone give me a positive ID on this one for me please? cheers x | |

| Your photographs match those o Liocheles waigensis in the Scorpion Files gallery... but since I have not had any experience with this species, I could not be more conclusive... that nonetheless is as close as it gets...
*Just thinking the chela are less granulated than those showed in most photos...

*Just thinking the chela are less granulated than those showed in most photos... I had this doubt as well, so I would also like to suggest Opisthacanthus madagascariensis Here is a great link on our on forum showing the scorpions one of our members has: https://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/t4509-a-few-recent-additions-plus-others-pic-heavyThere are pics comparing both the Liocheles and the Opisthacanthus, which makes me believe you have an Opisthacantus because there is a clear difference between the two with regard to their chela.

| umm.. im a right dummy when it comes to scorpion anatomy.. umm.. whats a telson, and chela? :S also, ive had a look at pics of the Liocheles waigensis and Opisthacanthus madagascariensis side by side, and mine looks a bit more like the Liocheles waigensis in respect of "arm" length (the bit that sits closest to the body?? duno if im right or not in saying that tho lol!! | |

| Scottland, how sure are you that yours is an Opisthacanthus madagascariensis? Here is a male Opisthacanthus madagascariensis on the Scorpion Files: http://www.ntnu.no/ub/scorpion-files/o_madagascariensis%28m%29.jpg The chela on your scorpion have the granulations that don't seem to be present in Opisthacanthus madagascariensis.
Sky_69, granulations are basically the bumps you find on the scorpion, such as one the claws.

| I'm curious why you guys think it's Liocheles. Are there any features you can point to? | |

| I compared the carapace and chelas: Specimen to be ID'ed (Front view) Liocheles Waigiensis (Front view) Specimen to be ID'ed (Side view) Liocheles Waigiensis (Side view) Might not be L. Waigiensis exactly but could be Liocheles sp. I noticed there is a slight coloration difference of the legs (probably due to the poor lighting in my pic), i'll check out my L. Waigiensis tonight again sky_69 sis: Do you know whats your scorp's instar and its current length?

| If you look at the chela and the granulation patterns, you can see that the specimen to be ID'd lacks the patterns present in the L. weigensis. This makes me hesitate to label it as such. The pedipalp in general does not match either (the angles and patterning). | |

| I just checked out the link you posted bro: Opisthacanthus madagascariensis Male (Picture by LadyRiotControl) After seeing this pic, i think it could be a closer match to Opisthacanthus madagascariensis Chela granulation = Match Femur granulation = Match Carapace pattern = Match Mesosoma pattern = Match Legs colorings = Match 5 Matches !! If anyone got another opinion /suggested sp pse feel free to post. | |

GS, no idea what instar, and he/she is about 2.5-3 inches in length with his/her tail curled up as in my pics.

| I think you could be correct GS with Opisthacanthus madagascariensis. This may not be of much help finding the species but I'm thinking it's not L. waigiensis too now. Here's a pic of of my Liocheles waigiensis chelae and you can see the granulation that's not on Sky's scorp. I got told by Martin Goss this is definitely waigiensis and it does ring true because it's been burrowing rather than climbing like australasiae would do. | |
