I've been thinking about mixing up Edvin's diet a bit and stray from just gut-loaded crickets. I have heard that mealworms and superworms are fatty, so they shouldn't be fed often, and don't actually contain a high amount of nutrients. I was wondering if silkworms and waxworms are also safe for my emp to eat? =)

i quit using Krix, they stink and attract to many other bugs/gnats
so i use mealwoms & (Blaptica dubia) Roaches which are fun IMO to breed and keep...

Crickets are vile little things. I prefer locusts.

I tried feeding mine mealworms and they just ignore them.

I've never heard of anyone trying to feed a scorpion silkworms, so I'd avoid them. Waxworms are pretty much the same as super worms.

It all depends on what they'll eat though, mine are fussy eaters and will generally only go for locusts and super worms.

It's trial and error really.

from my experience with raising/culturing Waxworms,
they do not have much in terms of protean by mass they are mostly fatty tissue,
so it should not be a only source pray item, moderation is key with waxworms...
here is a great table for comparison :

Oh wow, that's helpful. Thanks. =D

The waxworms are pretty fatty, but I might consider them for treats and snacks for other nutritional value. The roaches are looking best... I'd just have to find a provider. The crickets creep me out. =[ They're stinky and they eat eachother and leave limbs laying around.

Exactly my problem with them.

That, and they like to bite me.

I figured it was kinda silly to make a new topic for this, since you all have probably seen it a thousand times... but I'm giddy I just got to watch Edvin snatch a cricket out of mid-hop and eat it! I've never seen him eat before. *Excited.*

Meal worms are tough little things. If you feed them as said before do so only as snacks but put them in a dish like a small flower pot saucer so they can't climb out. The downside to them is they will burrow immediately and disappear. They can chew through plastic containers so if they catch your scorp at an opportune time it could be curtains. Putting them in a dish so they can't escape is good because you can then monitor them and remove uneaten prey items. I am not sure where to get locusts around here so crickets have been the staple diet until my blaptica dubia colony gets a little bigger Smile. I agree with DLP though they are fun to keep. They are also supposed to be far superior to any other prey item because of the nutrients, low fat and high protein. Mixing it up from time to time is good though. I probably wouldn't try anything other than meal worms/superoworms, crickets, locusts (if I found some) and roaches.

I totally agree with everyone else, crickets suck (and stink). I have heard that the Mealworms are fatty, and the guy at my exotic shop said that their carapace gives the scorpion some trouble.

Now, I feed my scorp large B. Dubia roaches which are easy to keep and feed plus they give my emp a nice big meal. Another plus is that they live for a long time, I found an extra roach basking in the tank the other morning. The second roach was a medium sized one that I put in two weeks ago, what a trooper, he went back with other roaches that are in line to be dinner. Lucky for them my emperor is fasting ha.

+1 for roaches (dubias)

I'll have to look into where I can get roaches here, then. =D I'm sure my sister will be ecstatic that I'm keeping them.

TheRoachGuy.com is where I have ordered from 2x. He has been excellent

I have also heard great things about the RoachRanch.com or something. I have tried to order from there once and they were out of what I needed so I went to TheRoachGuy.

Not sure if either of these are in the reviews thread, maybe I'd better check and add them if not. I'd also recommend that thread to anyone on here who has not reviewed an individual or company before making a purchase on here. It is worth hearing others experiences and opinions, in my own opinion of course Very Happy.
