Hi all this is really for the Uk guys and girls

2011 sees the welcoming of the first annual South East Arachnid Show. This will be the only arachnid trade show in the south east of England.

The trade show will be held at the Ashford International Hotel in Ashford, Kent and sits just off junction 9 on the M20 so will be a doddle for you to find. The full address of the venue is as follows.

Ashford International
Simone Weil Avenue,
Ashford,
Kent,
TN24 8UX

The best ways of getting to the trade show are; by car, as previously said they are just off junction 9 of the M20, it is also just 23 miles from Dover ferry port for anyone coming from the continent. By train, the venue is 3 miles from Ashford international train station that is on the high-speed rail link so you can get there in no time at all and there is a short bus ride between the station and venue.

There is a small entry fee to enter the premises, the prices are as follows.

Adult - £3
Child (5yrs-15yrs) - £1.50
Child (under 5) – Free
O.A.P - £1.50

Ive just copied the info from the site but heres a link if you want it

http://invicta-arachnid-club.org.uk/index.php?slab=customer-information

Also martin goss is offering a 20% discount on all pre-orders taken for collection at The South East Arachnid Show

hmmm... reading their health and safety regs i found this:
"· The sale of live venomous species of animal is strictly forbidden. It will remain the responsibility of the trader to make sure they are aware of the law on any dangerous or venomous invertebrates."
so no scorpions, tarantulas, or centipedes then?
i think they mean no DWA species but putting this on their site is a bit silly.

what a great show! it was seriously packed though, they needed larger spaces between the tables.
the guy from www.polyped.de was great. he was very hands on with his animals, and seemed to be very trusting of the public with a lot of stuff on display without lids. there were people picking up the emps and stuff and he was very confident when handling them.
i spent most of my time and money there, i got a giant millipede (and a thousand mites with it), a vampire crab (i should have got more) and a scorpio maurus (which needs an exorcism! blimey!).
other than that i picked up a h. swammerdami from the goss brothers, it was sold as a small one (£5) but is a molt away from being the size of the medium ones they had. i nearly got the big swammerdami for £20 but i had spent all my money already and by the time i had fought my way out for some more money and back in some swine had got it Very Happy

what did everyone else get?

We just ended up with supplies no scorpions Sad was very busy ( hard to get a look at most stuff) and was hoping there would be more scorpions than there was, but we still came home with loads of other goodies

The polyped guy had loads of stuff, was tempted on getting 2 emps but I was not completely sure they was emps to be honest they even had a different name on there label which I can't remember now def heterometrus but not pandinus and our plan was to get a male and female emp to go with out other female so didn't want to risk them not being.

So we left with no scorps, but went to Canterbury exotics straight after and we have 2 adult emps coming and my sister got some fire belly newts

What a great show! I'd definitely go again next year. I came home with loads of goodies. I got a male and female adult Het. Madraspatensis, a Liocheles waigiensis and a sub-adult Brachypelma smithi for my next spider. Also brought 8 of the custom tanks, jumped straight on those lol the perspex ones sold like hot cakes. Also got bark tubes, couple books, dubia roach colony to start off, supplies and live food.

So you weren't tempted by your first spider then Bex?

i kinda was but there was just so many to choose from i wouldnt know where to start lol, plus i dont really know much about keeping them not really looked into that much yet, really wanted to buy loads though had to be reined in, was very tempted by the enclosuresto the right as you walk in with the clear lids, thought they was very cheap!

looking forward to next year want to be at the front of the queue this time though lol had to fight our way round, think a lot of people came just to look, saw quite a few kids running around,

also i was told it was gonna be in 2 halls not 1 think it could have done with being more spaced out so you could get a good look, nearly bought an awesome scorp necklace cost like £30 though lol

was it a really big shiny black thing?
those were emps on the end of the plolyped table, wernt they??? looked like them to me!
someone had some medium sized b. smithi for £25, they would have been good.
i also bought a little glass tank, its well built if a little uneven in a few places, it was worth £7.50 lol!

i didnt see the prices of those perspex ones, but they went really quickly!

polyped, welcome to the forum. got to ask, do you post to the UK? i really should have bought a group of those crabs, and nobody over here has them!

im definitely going next time, and i hope they can get a bit more space. i did wonder if i missed a bit because i wasnt sure if i saw the spider shop there and there were a few others missing.
where did all these people come from though?!?! i was expecting about 100 people to turn up throughout the day, but there must have been 1000 overall!

I really thought you'd be tempted by one Bex. If you can keep scorpions you can keep a spider. I grabbed one of those medium B. smithi for £25, they make great first spiders.

Are you talking about the glass front opening tanks on the right as you come in for £15? because I got those Very Happy and two other small glass ones and 4 perspex ones. Thought all the tanks were great value for money.

Lots of pics to come just sorting through, and i'v been doing lots of re-homing and setting these new tanks up. Very Happy

Scorpio, you must have seen spidershop, they was the tables on your left as you came in but yes was very busy and cramped. I too got told they're going to use the two halls next time!

oh, that was them... i didnt get to that table lol.
you just reminded me of what i meant to do, pictures!

did you see the ginormomassivelyhuge Tarantula at polyped?? that thing must have weighed 1lb or more lol!

it will be good with two halls, im sure i will spend loads more money next time.

right... lots and lots of pictures im afraid...
Scorpio "satan" Maurus. it nearly had me yesterday, it shot straight up the 9" tweezers and onto my arm but i just about shook it back in. it doesnt seem to feed on the flesh of its victims, but there suffering and misery instead. it held onto an adult cricket and stung it every now and then until it died about an hour later. it didnt bother eating any of it.
SEAS - South East Arachnid Show...UK members 30/01/2011 1_02_211

gigantic millipede. absolutely crawling with (good) mites. im hoping they will eat each other. until then its not nice to handle so i use a walking stick.

H. swammerdami. sold as a baby (£5) from mr goss, as you can see by its hugeness and the scale with the lid of a ball point pen (which it tried to eat) its about to molt and is most definately not what i would call a "baby".

Wow awesome pics actually wishing we had got some of those lil crabs there so cute lol, I had to save a snail on the polyped table it was nearly attached to my fiancee lol so I put him back in his box, those millipedes creep me out

The enclosure I saw ( not sure if they open at the front) had clear lids and a kinda vent panel going along the back side / top of it, they had some tiny things too like 3" squared at the most not sure what would have gone in those lol

Nice pics mate. That crab looks awesome no wonder you want more. I like how you've set up it's tank. I saw that scorpio maurus, certainly looked mean and yea I saw that massive spider, it was unreal.

I've posted a few of the enclosures I got from seas in the enclosure thread.
