 | Subject: My first scorpion in Argentina, sand or soil? Not sure please help! 1/14/2011, 10:05 am | |
| Hello guys! Yesterday i cought this scorpion outside my house here in Mar Del Plata, Argentina. We are a coastal city not leaning towards desert and also not really in a tropical zone. (cold 9 months out of the year) Therefore my main question is what type of ground medium I should go with, whether sand or soil. I currently have him in moist soil (3-5") with some rocks/logs and such. Attached is a picture of when I first caught him alone in a jar. Any info would be greatly appreciated as far as advice and species/type. I love my scorp!!! Thank you so much! http://i38.servimg.com/u/f38/16/08/11/58/scorpi10.jpg |

| Hi welcome to the forum!!! Wish I could catch scorps outside my house lol, do you have a lot around?? I'm still relatively new to the whole scorp thing so afraid I can't tell you what it is although I would have assumed it was a desert species, this type of scorp can be hard to id sometimes coz there are a lot of the "yellow" kind that look quite similar, like some quite dangerous species can be mistaken for Scorpio maurus a non dangerous species. I would say put it on whatever your local ground substrate is for now, or go for a mixture of sand and soil, I dunno wait for some more experienced people to come along and post there are a lot of extremely knowledgeable people on here I've certainly learnt a lot from them!! Enjoy your new scorp, I would be careful though until you get a positive id just in case it is a "hot". | Thank you for your response! We are currently in summer so I will see a couple here every now and then, not many at all though i am very lucky to have found him/her. I also forgot to mention he is very small, maybe 2.5 cms. I cought a couple spiders and put em in the habitat! I am definetly not handling him at all! hahaha! |
