 sterilizing

PostSubject: sterilizing   12/19/2010, 7:01 pm

i got some rocks from outside and im wondering what the best way to sterilize them is. i tried boiling water but they just exploded and Ive read up on diluted bleach but im not to happy with that one. so if any one has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated

I'll boil the water and pour it onto a container with the rocks. Additionally, i microwaved them for 1-2 mins after they have dried up.

i tried the oven and boiling them in a pan and because there are air pockets in the rocks when the get heated up for a prolonged period of time the air in the rocks expand and blows up the rock

Then don't boil them for extended periods of time.

When cooking food to make it safe enough to eat, the generally accepted temperature is 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 Celsius). This is well below the boiling point but should be hot enough to kill anything living on the rock that may harm your scorpion.

Just bring the water up to that temperature and hold it for several minutes.
