Thanx... hard to believe they came from the only colony in the uk...just been reading they are the most northern population of scorpions in the world , found on the Isle of Sheppey (Sheerness) in the UK . This population was introduced to the area in the 1860s

Are those full grown?? They are absolutely adorable, very cool looking scorps!! Let me know if you breed them on purpose or accident and want to offload some babies! I really like the way they look and it would be hella cool to tell the story about where they came from and what not!

BTW it's freezing here too, snow and ice all night!

yeah they are fuuly grown they grow to about an inch 2 at the most and they are awesome and the funny thing is they are the most active scorpions we have they are always on the move of an evening im guessing they are loving the heat i bet all their mates back in the wall are deffo in hibernation mood right now poor things cant wait till the summer so we can go get some more.....

Hm, if they are only native to a single place, aren't thay on some endangered specie list then, or...?

I think they can found else where and they aren't native to the UK but they are the only species that has colonized and sustained themselves there. Still very unique but not endangered. That's my understanding, Bex does that sound right to you?

yeah they are not native to the uk and are not protected here at all so could be wiped out if the authorities decided to, they are generally found in Africa (Algeria, Tunisia), Europe (France, Italy, Spain). Introduced to Great Britain and Uruguay (South America).

I find it hard to beleive they can survive our climate, cant wait to go get some more in the summer ....cant believe no-one else went to take a look!

And rene im loving your sig lol

heres a link to my original post about them

http://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/scorpions-in-general-f12/sheerness-dockyards-yellowtail-scorpion-colony-uk-t5330.htm

i very much doubt you coulld go catch them at this time of year though i think it would need to be warmer for them to be active and out and about really we was lucky and went at the end of summer

Any ideas as to how they've colonized in the UK?

They are at a Dockyard and apparently are believed to have been brought over on shipments of masonry from italy 200 years ago
